Asia, Nepal, Churen Himal West Attempt

Publication Year: 1985.

Churen Himal West Attempt. A team of four Northern Irishmen attempted Churen Himal West by its southwest face. From Camp I, on May 4 leader Dawson Stelfox and Martin Manson reached the team’s high point of 21,500 feet while the other two members, Philip Holmes and Malcolm McNaught went to 21,000 feet that same day. Manson was hit and bruised by a falling stone. The face above was threatened by rockfall, strong winds were blowing and a snowstorm was building up. That evening they decided to abandon the climb.
