Gaurishankar, South Summit. A Japanese expedition of 13, led by Michio Yuasa, climbed the previously unascended southeast ridge of the south summit of Gaurishankar. After Base Camp and Camp I were established at 4800 and 5600 meters on August 30 and September 13, they climbed the southeast face of P 6333 and placed Camp III just below its top on the 22nd. Progress was very slow on the nearly horizontal knife-edges of the southeast ridge and Camp III was established hardly higher than Camp II on October 1. They bypassed onto the northern side. On October 18 Kazua Yamamoto, Atsushi Furuhata, Kiyo-hiko Suzuki, Yasuhira Saito and Nepalese Nima Dawa Tamang and Ang Dawa Tamang set out from Camp III, bivouacked and reached the south summit at 3:45 on October 19. They bivouacked again on the descent.
