Jongsang. This peak, which lies on or near the junction of Sikkim, Nepal, and Tibet, was climbed on June 11 by a 44-man team of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army. A first group under the leader, Captain Asok Pretap Singh reached the summit (7483 meters, 24,550 feet) at two P.M. while a second group led by Lieutenant Prem Prakash summited at four P.M. on the same day. They had trekked from Lachen and set up Base Camp at Green Lake, east of Goma. They left Base Camp on May 21 and set up the assault camp at 22,900 feet on June 9. The mountain was climbed from the east.
