Cerro Castillo, Southeast Face, North of the Southern Continental Icecap, 1982. Yugoslavs Tone Golnar and Ljubo Hansel, New Zealander David Waugh and Korean Chil Kyou Son teamed together to make the first ascent of the southeast face of Cerro Castillo (2620 meters, 8531 feet) and the second ascent of the peak on December 5, 1982. The route followed a 55° ice couloir (in places much steeper) in the center of the face. The descent required sixteen 150-foot-rappels. The peak lies west of Lago Argentino. Waugh soloed nearby Cerro Peñón (2600 meters, 8530 feet).
