North America, United States, California—Sierra Nevada, Mount Hoffman, Crimson Corner and Hoffman's Turret

Publication Year: 1983.

Mount Hoffman, Crimson Corner and Hoffman’s Turret. To the right of the Merle-Alley route on the north face of Mount Hoffman is a large, left-facing, reddish-stained comer starting about 200 feet off the ground. Two pitches led to the base of the comer, which was followed for three more pitches to the top. Often, cracks on the right wall of the comer were quite useful, and the crux was an offwidth section of the fourth pitch. Terri Counts and I climbed this route in August, (Grade III, 5.9.) Also in August, Terri Counts and I made what we believe to be the first free ascent of Hoffman’s Turret, an enjoyable two-pitch route. (Grade I, 5.9.)
