Rajuntay, West Face and Other Climbs. E. López and A. Tordoya, of the Club Andino Peruano, made the first ascent of Rajuntay (5477 meters, 17,970 feet) in the local winter or rainy season (April 20, 1980). They climbed the east face, experiencing stormy weather and unfavorable snow conditions. A year later, on May 1, the same Tordoya, with B. Morales and A. Rodriguez, reclimbed Rajuntay, now by the west face, a new route. On April 26 Tordoya and J. Quiroga climbed, also for the first time, the south wall of Nevado San Andrés (5225 meters, 17,140 feet) which travellers can see at an advantage from the Anticona road. Both peaks mentioned are located in the Cordillera de la Viuda, east of Lima.
