Fairweather, Carpé Ridge. Don Langlois, Bill Staub and I landed on the beach just above Sea Creek on April 29. After following the normal route, on May 10 we hauled our last load to Base Camp. The approach had been long and hard, but the weather made up for any discomfort. We started the climb on May 10, making our first camp at 9000 feet. The weather deteriorated but we continued on to Camp II at 11,500 feet and again on to the southeast shoulder, where a white- out halted us. The next morning was beautiful, allowing us a tremendous summit day and a long hike down to Camp I. The last day on the mountain was treacherous as we descended avalanche-prone slopes to Base Camp. It took four pleasant days to reach Sea Otter Creek.
