Explorers Club of Pittsburgh

Publication Year: 1981.

Explorers Club of Pittsburgh. ECP enjoyed another active year in 1980. Membership has remained at about 150 (in line with the concept that “small is beautiful”). There was no snow or ice to speak of in western Pennsylvania. Energies normally devoted to ice climbing and skiing were transformed into caving and kayaking in very cold water, which included a winter descent of the Gauley River in West Virginia.

Mountaineering, rock climbing, and caving seminars were undertaken with many field trips in each activity. There was a club trip to Peru, where, while ascending Huascarán Sur, its members aided in a successful rescue of a climber from another party. Currently a climbing expedition is planned for Angel Falls in Venezuela.
