The Colorado Mountain Club

Publication Year: 1981.

The Colorado Mountain Club. Our club is an organization of 12 groups, located throughout Colorado. The total membership at the end of 1980 is about 7000. During the year we sponsored about 2000 trips.

Club-sponsored outings included Yellowstone National Park in March, Grand Canyon National Park in April, Chatfield Bird and Wildlife Outing in May, three trail maintenance trips, Lake City Family Outing July 26-August 9, and Canyonlands National Park in Utah in May.

Our members have worked with those studying, evaluating, and promoting wilderness status for the roadless areas in the national forests and Bureau of Land Management lands in the state. We hope to see our wilderness areas nearly doubled in size during the lame duck session of Congress late in 1980. We have also been active in matters relating to mining operations and wild and scenic rivers.

Our president in 1981 will be Alan Delamere. The club has scheduled trips in 1981 to Wales and another to the southern San Juan Mountains in Colorado.
