A.A.C., New York Section

Publication Year: 1981.

A.A.C., New York Section. The past year was an active one for the Section: a newsletter was inaugurated, committees were staffed, and a record high in new members was attained. Three lectures of particular interest raised meaningful sums for the Journal’s Endowment Fund. In February Rick Ridgeway spoke on the 1978 American K2 Expedition and on his 1979 ski traverse of the Forbidden Plateau in Antarctica, while in November Ned Gillette gave an illustrated slide show on crosscountry skiing in Manchuria in the winter and the 1980 Mustagh Ata Expedition in Sinkiang Province. In October a “Welcome Back” party brought a full house of younger members and old timers alike to the Explorers Club for a members’ slide show followed by a buffet.

Our members were active during the year climbing in the Dolomites, New Zealand Alps, Alaska, and the Rockies. Close ties were established with our sister organization, the Explorers Club, and a number of our Club members joined in that organization’s gala 75th anniversary dinner at the Waldorf.
