Asia, Nepal, Ganesh IV (Pabil)

Publication Year: 1981.

Ganesh IV (Pabil). A French expedition led by Michel Feuillarade originally had nine members, including a photographer, but four climbers left the expedition in late September. The leader and three Sherpas tried to climb from Base Camp to the southwest ridge but got only to 20,000 feet, having established Camp I at 19,000 feet. The summit was made from Camp I alpine-style with four bivouacs by Erik Decamp, Guy Dufour and Alain Richier, who reached the top on October 11. They climbed via the south-southwest spur to the southeast ridge and south face. They descended the 1978 Japanese route.
