North America, United States, Wyoming—Tetons, Rolling Thunder Mountains, Renny's Route

Publication Year: 1981.

Rolling Thunder Mountain, Renny’s Route. This route, the most difficult yet made on this isolated peak, was climbed on July 9, 1980 by George Montopoli and Anne Macquarie. The five-pitch climb ascends the first crack system west of the dihedral that forms the conjunction of the north ridge and the north face. The first two 150-foot leads from the snow at the base of the face involve F9 climbing while the third pitch relents to a mere F3 difficulty. The final leads are F8 up a crack system, then a crawl to the left onto a ledge at the base of a dihedral which was climbed up to a ledge. A final crack led to the summit.
