North America, United States, Wyoming—Tetons, Mount Moran, West Dihedrals

Publication Year: 1981.

Mount Moran, West Dihedrals. This route which I climbed solo on June 28, 1979 is on a southwest-facing wall to the south of the Fonda Ridge. It starts to the right of a huge arch or roof, which is similar to the Cyclop’s Eye of El Capitan, and continues up and right into a left- facing dihedral system. Two thousand feet of climbing took me to the south ridge of Moran, which I followed for another 2000 feet to the summit. I climbed unroped except for seven pitches. Every pitch is at least F6, with two of F7 and one each of F8 and F9. It required 12 hours up and down. (V, F9.)
