South America, Chilean and Argentine Patagonia, Aguja Guillaumet and Other Peaks

Publication Year: 1980.

Aguja Guillaumet and Other Peaks. In November a young group from Bariloche spent three weeks in the Pollone valley behind Fitz Roy. Mario González and Daniel Horecky made what was probably the sixth ascent of the Aguja Guillaumet. (Alfredo Rosasco and Héctor Cuiñas made an ascent in early 1979.) Carlos Sonntag Jr. and Jorge Sonntag failed 350 feet from the top of Cerro Rincón, and José Luis Goin and Esteban Buch barely missed getting up the Gran Gendarme, first climbed by Carrington and Rouse. Another unsuccessful attempt was made by Italians in early 1979 on Cerro Egger.
