Pumasillo, West Ridge. A Japanese five-man-and-a-woman expedition established Base Camp on June 9 at 13,950 feet west of Pumasillo. They found it difficult to find a route to the west ridge but on June 25 they placed Camp III on it. On July 2 Hiroshi Masuda, Tatsuo Kishimoto and Haruyoshi Fujimoto reached the summit. Two days later the leader Shingo Ito, the woman Noboe Kawakami and Toshio Sasaki made it to the top.
