Koa Rong Valley, Lahul, 1977. An expedition from the Mazovia district of Poland climbed in the Koa Rong valley. They were led by Andrzej Zboinski. They approached via Darcha, which is some six miles northwest of the mouth of the valley. The approach into the valley itself is very difficult, as an American party had found in 1976, when they gave up the idea of entering the valley. The 5000-foot faces of the peaks are avalanche and rockfall prone. Base Camp was set up at 14,600 feet. From July 11 to 16, 1977 Przemyslaw Nowacki and Andrzej Palczewski climbed virgin P 5603 (18,383 feet) on the western side of the valley by its southwest ridge, which had some vertical rock pinnacles. On July 13 Bozena Lewandowska and Zboinski climbed P 4931 (16,178 feet) at the southern end of the eastern side of the valley. On July 18 Jan Andzelm, Marek Konecki, Nowacki and Palczewski climbed P 4931 again and continued north along the ridge toward P 5760 (18,898 feet), but were turned back by bad weather at 18,375 feet.
