Makalu Attempt. A Polish expedition led by Janusz Kurczab attempted the northwest ridge of Makalu but had to give up the climb on October 27 after reaching Camp IV at 24,275 feet. One member died in an avalanche on October 6. There were two women members, Halina Krüger-Syrokomanska and Anna Okopinska. Further details are lacking.
