Cerro Heim Group Exploration and Ascent of Cerro Jani, Southern Patagonian Icecap. Our expedition was composed of Joe Browne, John Tincklepaugh, Alfredo Rikker, my brother Pedro and me. We explored the two possible routes of access to the Heim group, which lies southwest of Lago Argentino, south of Bahía Onelli and west of Brazo Spegazzini. From January 13 to 15 Browne, Tinklepaugh and P. Skvarca explored the approach via the Upsala Glacier but were forced back by bad weather. On January 18, we explored the northwest approach, going along the Bahia Onelli to the western glacier of the group. An inflatable boat would help on two difficult places on the shore of the lake. Again bad weather limited visibility. On the 20th we crossed the peninsula from Spegazzini to Onelli. On the only day of good weather, I climbed solo Cerro Jani (c. 1900 meters, 6234 feet), which lies just north and opposite the Heim Group.
