Quitaraju and Other Peaks. Johann Wittmann, Hans Buttkuss, Eva Selle, Klaus Stark, Fritz Buchwald, Werner Brand and I were at Base Camp in the Quebrada Santa Cruz at 13,450 feet from June 19 to July 8. We failed to climb Artesonraju by the normal north ridge route when we ran into a 100-foot section of bare ice at 18,000 feet, caused by unusually dry weather. We also climbed Quitaraju (19,850 feet) and five 5000-meter peaks, including Arhueikaka (17,651 feet).
