P 5500 (“Hendricks Peak”), Brooks Range. On August 14 I made the first ascent of P 5500 at 68° 49´ 15? N. and 145° 46´ 45? W. I traversed the entire ridge connecting the southwest, north and east summits. The mountain stands two miles northeast of a prominent lake. As there are no place names within 16 miles in any direction and since this appears to be the first ascent, I have submitted the name of “Hendricks Peak” to the Board on Geographic Names, honoring the Alaskan master guide, Joe Hendricks, who has guided in the area for many years.
