Chopicalqui—After a number of delays due to poor weather and awful snow conditions, John Barrett, Geoff Harrison, and I climbed the southwest ridge of Chopicalqui from Quebrada Ulta on July 23. On the same day, a French party completed a probable new route on the west face. Within two days, four French and two Austrians climbed up to our tracks from Quebrada Llanganuco and reached the summit by the southwest ridge. Prior to all this activity, the only other ascent of Chopicalqui this season was a Swiss party in early June.
