Chicago Mountaineering Club

Publication Year: 1976.

Chicago Mountaineering Club. The club’s increasing membership continues to tax the organization’s leadership resources. Despite overly large climbing parties the climbing leaders provide a high grade of training to beginners and try to promote the development of advanced climbers to leadership status. The club conducted a summer outing in the Sawtooth range in Idaho. Base Camp was near the Iron Creek Campground near Stanley. The outing was attended by 44 members. The peaks climbed were Regan, Thompson, Warbonnet, McGowan, Hayburn, Grand Mogul, Williams, Packrat and Elephant Perch.

Club members climbing with the Iowa Mountaineers in Peru were Olle Swartling, Susan Cochran, Jim Hagan and Bruce Hamilton. Base Camp was in the Quebrada Ishinca and the peaks climbed were Tocllaraju, Ishinka, Eastern Urus, and Western Urus.

Sometime this year the club hopes to publish its guidebook to rock climbing at Devil’s Lake. Also, we hope to publish a revised edition of the International Directory of Mountaineering Clubs this year.

Plans are being hastily prepared to promote a club-sponsored climbing expedition to Ecuador in July or August of 1976.
