A.A.C., Southern California Section

Publication Year: 1976.

A.A.C., Southern California Section. This Section met in November 1975 for the first time in two years. Pete White was elected the new Chairman; Mike Sherrick was re-elected Secretary-Treasurer. The Section voted to contribute modest monetary assistance to the A.A.C., and to the San Francsico Bay area members who had assumed a financial burden in entertaining the Russian climbers in California. An enthusiastic audience of members and guests enjoyed a program by Peter Pilafian, who showed candid shots (taken in Arizona, Mexico, and Switzerland) of the filming of The Eiger Sanction. Both Petes had participated in making the movie. The Section also sponsored a lecture by Eric Shipton in October. Nick Clinch, former A.A.C. President, and Glen Dawson, long-time member, made the arrangements. Shipton enthralled his audience with his dry wit, old-time black and white slides, and vivid descriptions of the pioneers’ personalities and routes in attempts on Everest from both north and south.
