Colorado College Mountain Club

Publication Year: 1975.

Colorado College Mountain Club. The CCMC experienced a highly successful year thanks to the efforts of enthusiastic members and our president, Laurie Rehnebohm. Notable climbs included the east face of Crestone Needle by Ken and Lester Michaels; Kurt Haire’s solo effort on the northeast buttress of Holy Cross; and Greg Twombly’s ascent of Devils Tower. The Blanca Peak jinx struck A1 Erickson and me, as incredible rockfall and other problems aborted our attempt on the standard north face route. Club rock climbers also did many classic ascents at local crags. Pete Koscumb is in Africa, where he visited the Mountains of the Moon and Kilimanjaro. During the year the club sponsored a rousing Mountaineer’s Weekend, a Wilderness Film Festival, and slide shows by Royal Robbins and Jim Dunne. In the planning stages for the coming year are a climbing guide to the Garden of the Gods, a TV production on rock climbing, and an expedition to climb Orizaba in Mexico.
