Colorado Mountain Club. The Colorado Mountain Club had an active 1973 with about 800 trips conducted which included about 650 climbs on some 300 peaks, a climbing trip to Idaho’s Sawtooth Range, a three- week hiking trip to Norway, exploration of potential and existing wilderness areas, and an expanded ski-touring program. Five of the club’s 12 groups participated in conducting six summer and winter climbing schools, and several held ski touring introductory classes. Club membership passed the 5000 mark, with the count on November 14 up to 5103.

The club’s conservation program emphasized the climber’s responsibility to help protect the mountains he uses. We worked on wilderness preservation, sensible back-country use, and other items affecting mountain land use. Wilderness exploratory trips went to Mount Evans, Maroon Bells/Snowmass, Indian Peaks, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Mount of the Holy Cross.
