South America, Bolivia, Huayna Potosí, Mururata Sajama

Publication Year: 1974.

Huayna Potosí, Mururata, Sajama. In June of 1972 the French guides Anselme Baud, Thierry Cardon and Bruno Richard made three new routes: Huayna Potosí by the southwest face1, 3000 feet of very hard ice; Mururata by the southeast spur, 3000 feet of which the last third was very difficult especially on the summit slope; Sajama by the north face.

1 Although the French claimed a new route, the Editor suspects that this was previously climbed by the Americans Todd, Harvard and Janney in 1970. See A.A.J., 1971, 17:2, pp. 422-3.
