South America, Chilean and Argentine Patagonia, Cerro Dedo, Patagonia

Publication Year: 1973.

Cerro Dedo, Patagonia. Cerro Dedo is in the region of Lago La Plata, north of the Northern Continental Icecap, and suffers from less bad weather than regions further south. The winds are usually high. Cerro Dedo (6625 feet; 40°50' S, 72°50' W) was climbed by my wife Elspeth and me via its west face on December 15. We climbed an unnamed 6235-foot peak by its east face on December 20. Both were granite peaks that stick out of basal sediments and metamorphics. Both had about 1000 feet of climbing of UIAA IV to V difficulty.
