Simian Outing Society. During the winter Diana Knaak and Pete Zvengrowski made the first known ski ascent of Mount Eisenhower in the Canadian Rockies, and Pete Zvengrowski, Skip King, and Walter Techabold made the first winter ascent of Victoria from Abbott Pass. Other Simians traveled to California for a successful ascent of Mount Whitney, while a larger group went to Jackson Hole for skiing and an ascent of Jackson Peak via the northwest ridge. During the Easter vacation period a large group of Simians went to the Shawangunks in New York, and a few headed south across the border to the mountains of Mexico. In the fall activities center at the local rocks of Portland Arch, Indiana, where rock climbing skills are taught on rotten sandstone, and at Devils Lake, Wisconsin, where the more solid feel of quartzite is available.
