Harvard Mountaineering Club
Harvard Mountaineering Club. Members were active in many areas again this year. As usual, difficult rock climbing was done in the Te- tons, Yosemite, and at Tahquitz Rock. Steve Arsenault was outstanding in this respect, doing several classic grade VI’s and a solo ascent of the Prow (Washington Column) in Yosemite and several very fine first ascents in the Wind River Range. Two groups visited the Bugaboos: one did a few standard climbs, and the other climbed the inside walls of their tent while attempting to wait out 12 days of miserable weather. Club members also climbed in Europe, Alaska, and South America. In the spring and fall, about 20 beginners were given rock climbing instruction, and many participated in trips to the Shawangunks and New Hampshire. Ice climbing in Huntington’s Ravine and the traditional traverse of the Presidentials occupied the winter. The club journal will be published this spring.
