Chicago Mountaineering Club

Publication Year: 1972.

Chicago Mountaineering Club. The club held its 15th Western Outing in Tonquin Valley, Jasper National Park, Alberta, in July. Camp was located at Surprise Point on Amethyst Lake with 30 members in attendance. Given superb weather, several parties ascended 10 peaks in the area. These included Bennington, Clitheroe, Maccarib, McDonald, Oldhorn, Outpost, Paragon, Simon, Surprise, and Thunderbolt. After the outing Olle Swartling led a small party up Mount Robson.

Individual members were active once again in various areas abroad. Frances Mullen returned to Pakistan, India, and Nepal, with treks into the mountains of Hunza, Kashmir, and the environs of Kathmandu. Bill King and Harold Knott joined the Iowa Mountaineers in Africa, where they reached the top of Kilimanjaro. Don and Gwen Simpson visited the Dolomites.

In other club affairs, we are encouraging greater involvement in our activities by local student groups and have provided for special student membership through a by-law change.
