Huandoy Sur, South Buttress. In A.A.J., 1971, 17:2, p. 400 it stated that the Japanese Kyoto expedition had repeated the American route of 1964. Up to 18,500 feet the two routes were separate; the Japanese climbed the right side of the buttress and the Americans the left. On June 30, 1970 Tohru Sasaki, Mitsuo Nishiki, Eiji Noda and Yorio Nakejima started up a 50° ice couloir at 16,750 feet and continued up difficult rock and ice to reach the American route. They got to the summit on July 3.
