A.A.C. Sierra Nevada Section

Publication Year: 1971.

A.A.C., Sierra Nevada Section. Membership in this section is now an even 100, continuing a slow gradual rise. Although section members have been quite active in mountaineering over the globe and in all phases, these activities have been organized privately or through other groups. This section has served more as a forum for the exchange of information and ideas, than as an organizer of climbs, training programs, or rescue services. Several members have encouraged a change to make the section more active in getting members together in the mountains as well as in the lecture hall, and plans are afoot to that end. In the last year section activities have included four meetings and slide shows. We have been particularly concerned with the question of guide certification, policy decisions affecting climbers in Yosemite Park, and funding of the AAC camp in the Tetons. Slide programs have featured Lou Reichardt’s report on Dhaulagiri, Richard Hechtel’s movie of climbing in Ecuador, Al Cooper’s climb of Chopicalqui, and Chris Jones’ climbs in the Bugaboos and Canadian Rockies.
