University of Wyoming Outing Club

Publication Year: 1970.

University of Wyoming Outing Club. The excellent guidance of Tom Christensen and Gary Poush during 1969 provided the club with an increased membership and a vast array of activities. Highlights of the climbing season were: two successful winter climbs of Longs Peak, two defeated attempts on winter East Face attempts on Longs Peak, 15 members making a winter ascent of Medicine Bow Peak, two successful ascents of Shiprock, 27 members climbing Devils Tower on various routes during a two-day trip, and the rendezvous held in the fall in the Tetons. Spurred on by Steve Mann cross-country skiing has enjoyed a boom in our area. Rich and Margaret Baldwin guided us to a dazzling caving season. To Chris we owe our thanks for discovering several new caves here in Wyoming. The University of Wyoming Outing Club was saddened by the death of Gary Cole on McKinley during the summer. Gary was one of the early members responsible for the organization and continuity of the club.
