Potomac Applachian Trail Club

Publication Year: 1970.

Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. The Mountaineering Section had one of its most active seasons in 1969. We had scheduled climbing trips every weekend throughout the year, and the Memorial Day weekend trip to the Shawangunks saw nearly 50 members making the long drive to New York. Members climbed in Yosemite, the Tetons, the Cascades, the Brooks Range in Alaska, Canada, Colorado, New England, the European Alps, and the Colombian Andes. Our club newsletter, Up Rope, continued in its new photo-offset format. Club relations with the National Park Service reached a new level in 1969, and as a result the Park Service made improvements to Carderock Recreation Area, our local practice climbing area. The improvements were made at the suggestion of the Mountaineering Section and benefited all those who climb at Carderock. We are still working on our guidebook to Seneca Rock, which should be published soon. It will be followed in 1970 by other guides to local rock climbing areas.
