A.A.C., Sierra Nevada Section. Membership in this section is now 94. The gain of 12 since the last report is mainly due to members moving into the area. Our main activity has been a very full program of slide shows, with four meetings last spring and one in the fall. Meeting sites have alternated between Berkeley and Palo Alto, with a May meeting in Yosemite. Our programs have ranged from soft snow to hard rock, from climbs done a month earlier to one done 30 years earlier. Jim Given presented the Catenary Ridge of Logan, and Gordon Benner showed slides of the east ridge of McKinley, which he and Jim climbed last summer. Giving us an early preview of the annual dinner program, Chris Jones described his ascent of Yerupajá and Fitz Roy, and A1 Steck and Barry Hagen showed slides and a movie of Mount Waddington, which they climbed with Les Wilson in February. Galen Rowell introduced many of us to sandstone with his pictures of the Great White Throne in Zion, but we also saw plenty of granite action on Castle Rock Spire, climbed with Fred Beckey, and on Wapama Rock in Hetch Hetchy, which Rowell climbed with Joe Faint. Our Yosemite meeting featured a talk with climbing ranger Pete Thompson, and a fascinating glimpse into Yosemite climbing years ago by Raffi Bedayn. This meeting had a large attendance of non-members who were climbing in the valley, and we plan to repeat a meeting there next year as a way of getting new climbers familiar with the Club.
