Peaks above Sem Kharak Glacier. A team from the Mountaineers Club, Calcutta, began trekking from Malari on June 4 and established Base Camp at Sem Kharak on June 7. They stayed in the mountains for 14 days. Camp I (17,000 feet) was established on the lateral moraine of the Sem Kharak Glacier on June 9, Camp II at 18,500 feet and Camp III at 20,000 feet. On June 12 Pranesh Chakraborty, Amiya Kumar Mukherjee and Sherpas Pasang Tsering, Thondup and Kami Moti climbed an unnamed peak of 20,336 feet. It was named Gouranga Parbat after Gouranga Sundar Chowdhury, who died in the Gangotri region. On June 14, Biswadeb Biswas, Gurdip Singh Malia and Sherpas Pasang Tsering, Sonam Gyatso and Kami Moti climbed another virgin unnamed peak of 20,390 feet. It was named Bidhan Parbat after the late Dr. Bidhan C. Roy. The other members were Sunil Chowdhury, leader, Baidyanath Rakshit, Santi Kumar Ghosh, Dr. Bimal Bhusan Ghosh Dastidar, Samar Banerjee and Hukum Singh Bist.
