Mount McKinley. The main summit of Mount McKinley was reached by members of various expeditions. No new routes were made, but an international group, Sepp Weber, an Austrian living in Alaska, Jim Fraser, Jerry Bernas and Rudi Schmid, Americans, Karl Hub, German, and Arno Dennig, Austrian, climbed the Japanese Waseda route of 1960. Starting on April 26, they skied to the Kahiltna Glacier from Talkeetna, climbed to Windy Corner, ascended the western rim of the south face and from a high camp on the rim at 16,500 feet on May 22 Weber, Schmid, Hub and Dennig climbed to the summit. Ronald C. Priebe, Warren Bowman, Scott Foster and Mark Switzer climbed the Muldrow route, reaching the summit on July 23. Five groups climbed the West Buttress: Ray Genet, Pete Robinson and Hans Van der Laan on May 3; Thomas A. Nash, Wayne M. Smith, Craig L. Smith, Donald W. Halloran, Donald E. Marcy, and Alfred C. Pinchak on June 11; Richard Gnagy, Brian Bartlett and Reginald Donatelli on June 29 and William Kelly and John Ohrenschall on June 30; Gilbert Roberts, Ed Keller, Kim Appleberry, Bill St. Lawrence, Bob Bigelow and Les Wilson on July 7; Jack Miller and Bob Spurr on August 1.
