South America, Chile, Nevado Juncal, South Peak, Central Chile

Nevado Juncal, South Peak, Central Chile. The Osaka Mountaineering Association expedition to central Chile was led by Eiichiro Hisano. Other members were Masando Izeki, Yasuo Asakawa, Kenko Matsumoto, Hikoshi Tomada, Masanori Nakado, Masahiro Sudare, and Takeo Naka. They made the first ascent of the southern peak (19,390 feet) of Juncal, of an unnamed peak south of it on the frontier of 16,900 feet, which they called "Cerro Amistad” and of "Cerro Yamakawa” (16,667 feet) in the Morado group. The latter was named for Yuichiro Yamakawa, a Japanese artist who happened to visit their Camp I on December 10 and lost his life when he wandered into a crevasse.
