North America, United States, Wyoming—Tetons, Manless Climbing

Publication Year: 1966.

Manless Climbing. An otherwise ordinary season in the Tetons was enlivened by the success of two new manless climbs of the Grand Teton. On August 3 Sue Swedlund and Irene Ortenburger climbed the Underhill Ridge, Buckingham variation, for the third manless route on this famous mountain. Thirteen days later this same pair carried to completion an ascent of the direct north face, perhaps the most difficult manless climb yet made in this country.
