Blackburn and Regal, Wrangell Range. The Doshisha University Expedition was led by Masao Nishihara and was composed of Yasuichi Kitamura, Ryoichi Hasegawa, Tohoru Araki, Yasuo Kawai, Ro Matsumoto, Masao Tanaka and Shinichi Naito. On July 8 they were flown by Wilson to a plateau at 4250 feet on the Nabesna Glacier, where Base Camp was established. They were flown on the 13th by Super Cub to the Advanced Base Camp for Mount Blackburn at 10,000 feet. Camp I was placed at 11,800 feet on July 15 and Camp II at 14,100 feet on July 17. On the 18th Kitamura, Kawai, Matsumoto and Naito climbed to the summit (16,525 feet) (third ascent). A party left Base Camp on July 30 by Super Cub for the Advanced Base Camp for Mount Regal (9500 feet). Camp I at 10,500 feet and Camp II at 11,500 were established on July 31 and August 2. On the 3rd, Kitamura, Hasegawa, Tanaka and Naito made the first ascent of Mount Regal (13,811 feet).
