Salute the Mountains — 100 Walks in the Alps and Salute the Skier — 100 Ski Runs in the Alps, by W. Pause, translated from the German (Berg Heil and Ski Heil). London: George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd., 1962/1963. Each book 212 pages, 100 photographs, 100 route sketches. Price 45 shillings.

The above are excellent guide books for selected Alpine walks and ski runs in France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy. Each of the one hundred hikes or ski excursions features a general description followed by such pertinent data as points of access, altitude, huts and a sketch map. A photograph accompanies each description. The walks include some ascents of easier peaks and the ski runs include some mountain peaks accessible only to the experienced ski mountaineer. An appendix deals with proper precautions from the dangers of mountaineering as well as first aid treatments. Both books are highly recommended and should be very useful in planning a vacation.
