Wisconsin Hoofer Mountaineers. Climbing interest was again high during the year, both among old members and a large number of new people. As spring brought warmer weather, the core of experienced climbers once again found themselves well outnumbered by enthusiastic beginners on the weekly rock climbing trips to Devils Lake. Even after toughening up with the spring practice, many, as usual, still found muscles in unexpected places when in June a sizable group of us climbed in the Tetons. Although our climbing schedule had to be changed because of late snows, several first ascents of the year were made, and in all 17 people made 73 individual ascents. On the way to the Tetons several of the group warmed up on Devils Tower in eastern Wyoming. The summer passed with continuing activity at Devils Lake, Wisconsin, until late August when another party went west to the Selkirks. The fall semester brought a large influx of beginners, who gradually diminished in number as winter approached. Finally, to conclude 1963 and begin the new year, a group left for Mexico and the higher elevations of Popocatepetl and Ixtacídhuatl.
