Colorado College Mountain Club. The year 1963 was one of mostly regional mountaineering for the CCMC. In addition to the usual array of Colorado peaks ascended, the group took to skiing, tobogganing, and increased spelunking. Three series of technical rock climbing sessions were held. Besides the standard techniques of safety, a Red Cross first-aid course was taught by one of the qualified club members. Winter mountaineering is more popular in the Club this year, with increased interest in ski mountaineering and plans for a technical snow and ice school. In connection with this interest, the Club sponsored one of Hans Gmoser’s fine skiing and rock climbing films. Plans were made for a trip to Mexico the first two weeks in January, 1964. Popocatepetl and Orizaba are the intended goals to the trip to be led by Steve Stratford and Gary Ziegler. Gary has recently returned from directing the Peace Corps technical climbing school in South America.
