A.A.C., Cascade Section

Publication Year: 1964.

A.A.C., Cascade Section. The section held five meetings during 1963. President Carlton Fuller visited us early in January and contributed significantly in our business meeting. Jim Whittaker, Luther Jerstad, and Barry Bishop gave us a preview of the Mount Everest trip later in the month. In April the section met to see Gino Solda’s film of the face climb of the Cima Grande de Laverado. In addition, Dr. Kaspar Winterhalter showed his slides of an adjacent climb, a few years previous. Both climbs were most spectacular. Our annual dinner meeting was held at the Seattle Tennis Club in November, and was a great success, with 110 members and their guests turning out to hear Jim Whittaker and Tom Hornbein’s account of Everest 1963. The Cascade Section is actively interested in promoting greater participation by the general public in mountaineering. We are working with the U. S. Forest Service in Washington State, toward improving access trails into the high alpine country. We have been welcomed by the Forest Service. The section is considering an annual donation of the A.A. Journal and Summit Magazine to each Seattle high school library, with the purpose of interesting more young people in mountaineering.
