Peruvian National Andean Climbing Convention

Peruvian National Andean Climbing Convention. This convention took place in Huaraz in late July and early August. It was officially sponsored by the Ministry of Public Education and organized by the head of the Sección de Andinismo, Physical Education Bureau of the Ministry, Professor César Morales Arnao, with the collaboration of the Club Andino Peruano. Delegates from the following Peruvian clubs attended: Kilovatio, Excursiones del Instituto Cultural Peruano-Norteamericano, Cordillera Blanca (Huaraz), Huaytapallana (Huancayo), Huascarán (Yungay), Oyón (Cajatambo), Hualcan (Carhuaz) and Santa Rosa (Puno). There were observers from Switzerland, United States, Brazil, Germany, Canada and Spain, many from expeditions in the Peruvian Andes. The program was very varied. There were meetings, Andean lectures and exhibits in Huaraz and Yungay, excursions into the Huascaran National Park, as well as ascents of Ranrapalca, Rimarima, Huascarán and Vallunaraju. The convention recommended the following: formation of climbing clubs in the schools of the country, paving of roads in the Callejón de Huaylas, establishment of a national climbing school in the Llanganuco, publication of an Andean climbing guidebook, granting Professor Hans Kinzl the title "Precursor del Andinismo Peruano” and the establishment of a permanent mountain rescue group.
