North America, United States, Wyoming—Wind Rivers, Redwall Peak, East Face

Publication Year: 1964.

Redwall Peak, East Face. Not far north of Grave Lake in the southern Wind River Range is an outstanding small peak with a spectacular 1000-foot east face, quite reddish in color. Layton Kor and I made its first ascent on September 6, climbing the center by a prominent dihedral. The climb is consistently exposed and involves a good deal of medium difficult and at times very difficult free climbing, most of which is jamming and laybacks. There are several NCCS 7 and 8 pitches, and one cave-like overhang that involves difficult direct-aid work. The climb is quite continuous and does not let up for the entire distance of the dihedral.
