A.A.C., Cascade Section. The Cascade Section held two dinner meetings and two evening meetings in 1962. An average of 65 members attended each of the meetings. Those who were present for these meetings were entertained by slides and lectures on the following: Squamish Chief by Ed Cooper, Mount McKinley by Fred Beckey, the 1958 Swiss Dhaulagiri Expedition by Dr. Caspar Winterhalter, the 1961 German Andean Expedition by Donald Liska, Mount Ararat in Turkey by William Dougall, the Adamant Range in the Northern Selkirks by Joe Firey, and Mount Sir Sandford by Maurice Muzzy.

Donald Anderson made three first ascents in Peru of the following: Nevado Paccharaju, P 5460 and Churihuauqui. Kenneth Carpenter led a six-man expedition to Mount McKinley which achieved the summit in 23 days via Karsten’s Ridge. Richard McGowan led a professionally guided ascent of Mount McKinley. William Dougall made what is believed to be the first complete ascent by an American of Mount Ararat in Turkey. Luther Jerstad, Willi Unsoeld, and James Whittaker will be on the 1963 American Mount Everest Expedition. James Whittaker had charge of packing and shipping 22 tons of equipment for the expedition from Seattle to Calcutta. Willi Unsoeld is now in the Peace Corps as an assistant deputy leader in Nepal.

In June members of the section had an opportunity to attend two lectures by Guido Magnone and to watch a demonstration of his climbing

technique.
