Mount Temple, South Face. Fritz Zimmermann, Stan Gregory, and I made the first complete ascent of the south side of Mount Temple on September 3. Starting from the western end of Snow Lakes we followed a long system of slabby but easy gullies to the southwest corner of the summit pinnacle. Here a large flake is separated from the face by a cannon- hole. We crawled through and gained the spacious ledge formed by the top of the flake. With pitons for aid, a single vertical crack was negotiated to a smaller ledge 30 feet above. Wider cracks and broken rocks were followed to the summit.
