Peak 4897, Sultan Basin. In May this sharply crested peak three miles north-northeast of Mount Stickney was climbed by Glen Watson, Preston Bonney, Monte Haun, Bob Hall and Kenn Carpenter. The South Fork of the Sultan River was reached by descending 500 feet through brush from a mining road. The river was crossed, and open timber was ascended to the southwest shoulder from where a sharp rocky ridge led to the summit. No record of prior ascent was found, and the peak was named "Static Peak” for the eerie display of St. Elmo’s fire.
