South America, Argentine-Chile Boundary

Argentine-Chile boundary. The first ascent of Mt. Fitzroy (11,500 ft.) in Patagonia is reported to have been made in January 1952 by two French climbers, members of a party from the Section Lyon- naise of the Club Alpin Fran├žais. Fitzroy, a spectacular 6000-ft. shaft of granite, rises from the eastern edge of the ice cap near Lake Viedma. Fine photographs of it, and of this incompletely known area, are to be found in a book Andes Patagonicos by Agostini, published in 1941 at Buenos Aires.
